Detroit Zoo Announces Special Mother's Day Gift Program

The Detroit Zoo has announced a special Mother's Day Gift program it hopes consumers will choose to give this year to mothers, wives, grandmothers and friends. In honor of the Zoo’s newest mother, Barle, the polar bear, the Detroit Zoo is having its first Mother’s Day Wildlife Preserver, Adopt-an-Animal Program. This special Mother’s Day gift box includes an adorable plush polar bear with a personalized adoption certificate, a card and fact sheets. Officials stated the promotion runs until the end of May.

Zoo officials explained that Barle’s story is particularly heartwarming for mothers of all kinds. Barle had a difficult start in life. The Detroit Zoo rescued her from the Suarez Brothers Circus in Puerto Rico in 2002. Since then, she has made a complete recovery, giving birth to her healthy cub.

The Detroit Zoological Institute, is comprised of the Detroit Zoo and the Belle Isle Nature Zoo. The Institute, founded in 1928, is committed to celebrating and saving wildlife. Situated on 125 acres of naturalistic exhibits, the Detroit Zoo is open year round with several indoor viewing areas. The Belle Isle Nature Zoo is located on Belle Isle Park in Detroit. The Detroit Zoological Society works to promote the general welfare and interests of the Detroit Zoological Institute. Financial support has allowed the Zoo to expand its animal collection, open new exhibits, and implement major beautification projects.
